Mari-Liis Kupri

Peer counsellor

E-post: mari-liis.kupri@toompargi.ee

As a peer counsellor, I focus on anxiety, work-related stress and burnout – problems that are unfortunately more and more present in our society. To further increase my competence in helping people, I am currently studying psychology at Tallinn University. I have worked as a lawyer in public sector for 16 years. My work is extremely demanding and I have to solve difficult problems often very fast. About a decade ago, high tension had lasted for so long that I completely burned out. The recovery process was long and led me to recognise that I wanted to be part of the solution and support people with similar problems. I am a good listener and solution-oriented. I can help you figure out what you really want from life and how to get there!

Peer counselling helped me at first to see where I was and after a while, to see how I had changed. The most important thing for me was to become aware of my issues and to start being honest with myself. I recognised when I had not previously done that and reflected on things I had avoided. Mari-Liis helped to see the thought patterns that I had fixed upon and that were not serving me. After a while, I was able to monitor myself better. Even now when the most difficult period has passed, it is beneficial to go to counselling every few months. Thank you!

My cooperation with Mari-Liis began when I was on the threshold of major changes and important decisions, precisely at the right time for me.

I had no previous experience with peer counselling but it proved to be a very effective method. We mapped out my problems (career choices, time planning, desired goals in the field of work, burnout) and, step by step, solutions appeared. I also appreciated the various tests that helped to identify what was most important to focus. It was good to meet once a week, to get valuable perspective on my life and have the opportunity to reflect on things.

Frankly, in retrospect, I can’t imagine how long it would have taken to find solutions alone and how difficult it would have been.

I am extremely grateful, and I can definitely say that peer counselling was the most suitable way for me to quickly find the best solutions to move forward in life.

Thank you, Mari-Liis <3
